Working Title’s Presents… PLAY THE RECORD BACKWARDS

About “Play The Record Backwards”

  • Inspired the phenomenon that people thought when they played records backward, they could hear Satan. This got us thinking…

    What we found was “pareidolia…”

Pareidolia is the tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern. Exploring the human desire to create meaning.

Hidden messages in songs, the man in the moon.

“Pareidolia” became the theme of the art show, and “Play The Record Backwards” became the event's overarching title.

  • It took time to figure out how the venue would inform the experience. We decided to split the events into two spaces.

    • Living Gallery

    • 1109 Gallery

The two spaces are adjacent, which allowed us to have live music in one space and art in the other, creating a dual experience.

  • We based the bands we chose on my thesis. The Tarrys, Wince, Le Bang, and Gun.

Then, we created a form for people from all over to submit their art based on the prompt. (W even ended up having people submit from other countries like France!)Thus creating the visual art component of the event.

  • We began working on this event in February 2024 and it took place in May 2024.
